Trump says he would debate Meghan Markle, Christie calls him a coward.
Former President Donald Trump said he would be willing to debate Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, if the opportunity arose. Trump made the comments in an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt on Wednesday.
“If you want to set it up, let’s set it up,” Trump said. “I’d love to debate her. I would love it.”
Christie, the former governor of New Jersey, who is also running for president, criticized Trump’s comments. He said that Trump is a “coward” for not debating his Republican primary opponents.
“Keep me on the stage for when the coward finally shows up to debate me,” Christie posted on Twitter.
Christie also said that he believes there is “absolutely no interest” in either Trump or Markle debating about anything.
The comments from Trump and Christie come as the Republican presidential primary is heating up. Trump is the current frontrunner, but Christie is hoping to gain momentum ahead of the second debate on September 27.
It is unclear if a debate between Trump and Markle would ever actually happen. However, the comments from the two men have certainly generated a lot of attention.
