Ocasio-Cortez Campaign Office Vandalized, Death Threats Reported, Aide Says
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is facing heightened security concerns after her campaign headquarters in The Bronx was vandalized over the weekend, and her office has received multiple death threats in recent days, according to her campaign staff.
Photos circulating online show red paint splashed across a mural of the congresswoman’s face and a sign posted on the building that reads: “AOC funds genocide in Gaza.” A group calling itself the “Boogie Down Liberation Front” claimed responsibility for the act in a social media post that included an image of individuals in the act of vandalism.
Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign manager, Oliver Hidalgo-Wohlleben, confirmed the incident and said the lawmaker has been the target of escalating threats.
“Our office is a hub in the community, and we want it to be a safe space for all of our neighbors,” he wrote on X. “In the past few days, we’ve received multiple threats on the Congresswoman’s life. We are working closely with our security partners to ensure the safety of the Congresswoman, our staff, and volunteers.”
The New York Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a 911 call early Monday morning about a “criminal mischief” incident at the location. “Upon arrival, officers observed the facade of the location defaced with red paint,” an NYPD spokesperson said. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
While Ocasio-Cortez has not directly addressed the vandalism or threats, she did respond on social media to false claims about her voting record on military funding. “Google is free. If you’re saying I voted for military funding, you are lying,” she wrote. “Drag me for my positions all you want, but lying about them doesn’t make you part of the ‘left.’”
She added, “If you believe neo-nazis are welcome and operating in good faith, you can have them!”
The controversy comes after Ocasio-Cortez voted against a proposal from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to strip U.S. funding from Israel’s missile defense system. The measure was overwhelmingly rejected in a 422–6 vote. Other progressive lawmakers, including Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), supported the amendment.
As law enforcement continues to investigate the threats and vandalism, Ocasio-Cortez’s team says they remain focused on maintaining the campaign office as a safe and welcoming space for the community.
