I doubt that Germany has monuments of Hitler, Stalin, etc. in public places. If you love these monuments, put them in a museum or place where you can visit them if you like, but not in public places where the injured individuals ‘ families are fored to deal with them.

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. These statues and named places were a concession to the South who got no reconstruction after Lincoln was shot. The Union knew that it had to heal the South in order to bring the Union of the States back together after a bitter civil war. What is next? Destroying CSA Grave markers? People do not have to visit these statues if they are so bothered by them.

These statues are a important part of American history. In my younger days, I never once thought as today’s youth. I always had the utmost respect for these statues and the people of that time…always thanking the Good Lord those are times of the past. Today, I feel, that American history needs to be again focused upon in the classroom along with math, science, and proper English. I was a typical Red Blooded American and respected my elders. I am a member of Nixon”s Silent Majority, a former State Trooper, and today at 80+ years of age.
