Behind the Poll
The Democrat-controlled House of Representatives passed a bill earlier this week to suspend the debt limit and fund the federal government through December 3rd.
If the debt limit is not suspended, or if the debt ceiling isn’t raised, the federal government may have to shut down. With the national debt sitting around $30 trillion, most Republicans oppose raising the debt ceiling.
After the House vote, Senate Republicans introduced an alternative spending bill that does not involve suspending the debt limit but still pays for most of the items in the House bill.
