Late Thursday, the administration shared a graphic on social media showing Trump dressed in Superman’s iconic costume—red cape and all—soaring through the sky with the bold caption, “THE SYMBOL OF HOPE.”
The image also featured the words, “TRUTH. JUSTICE. THE AMERICAN WAY,” followed by “SUPERMAN TRUMP.”
The meme comes amid a wave of conservative backlash over remarks made by Superman director James Gunn, who described the character as “an immigrant that came from other places and populated the country.” When asked how he felt about criticism from audiences who might find that portrayal offensive, Gunn responded, “screw them.”
