President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday for his annual medical examination, according to a statement from the White House. During the visit, he is also expected to meet with and address members of the military stationed there before returning to the White House later in the day.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt noted that this checkup is part of the president’s regular health routine, though it will mark his second visit to Walter Reed this year. Trump’s last exam took place in April, after which his physician reported that the president was in excellent overall health.
At 79 years old, Trump has continued to maintain a full travel and work schedule. However, in July, Leavitt confirmed that medical testing identified a common age-related vein condition known as chronic venous insufficiency. This occurs when veins in the legs have difficulty returning blood to the heart, sometimes resulting in swelling or visible veins. The Cleveland Clinic describes the condition as one that often affects individuals over the age of 70.
Leavitt also clarified earlier this year that discoloration and bruising seen on Trump’s hands were caused by minor soft tissue damage, likely the result of frequent handshakes and his daily aspirin regimen—both typical for someone with his activity level.
In addition to Friday’s medical appointment, Leavitt mentioned that Trump is considering a trip to the Middle East soon after his exam. The president recently said he may travel to Egypt over the weekend to advance discussions related to a potential peace agreement in Gaza.
The upcoming visit to Walter Reed is described as routine, part of the president’s ongoing commitment to maintaining his health while fulfilling an active schedule that includes both domestic responsibilities and international diplomatic efforts.
