Here’s Today’s Poll Question…
Behind The Poll
Biden’s newest plan is for the U.S. to achieve net-zero emissions by the year 2050. John Kerry says, “We can create a healthy, vibrant, and abundant world for our children. This plan is our promise to them – and it is one we must keep.”
Kerry continues, “The Long-Term Strategy shows that reaching netzero no later than 2050 will require actions spanning every sector of the economy.” He also warns, “Failure to immediately curtail emissions will […] unleash far more frequent and severe climate impacts and far more extreme downside risks.”
Critics are concerned that this new push for net-zero emissions will send energy prices soaring. By pushing for green energy solutions, investment in coal and gas decreases, which then leads to shortages. This can then lead to a situation where prices skyrocket. As one author puts it:
When it’s freezing cold and there’s not a breath of wind or shred of sunshine to be had, no one cares that the wind and sun are ‘free’.
As the marketing adage has it: ‘you get what you pay for’. And, so it seems, people are keener on having electricity at any price than not having electricity, at all.
