Vice President Kamala Harris confidently stated her readiness to assume the presidential role “if the situation arises.” However, she downplayed any apprehensions regarding President Biden’s age as they both seek re-election.
In an upcoming “Face the Nation” segment on CBS News, Margaret Brennan questioned Harris about the ongoing discussions, from both political spectrums, concerning Biden’s age and her potential to step in as the nation’s leader. Harris responded affirmatively, “Certainly, if required. But I believe Joe Biden is in good shape.” She emphasized her daily interactions with Biden and praised the accomplishments of their administration.
Biden’s age, as he approaches his mid-80s, has sparked debates and concerns, not just from opposition but also from within the Democratic party, especially as he aims for another presidential term. Should he be re-elected in 2024, Biden would be inaugurated at 82, while Harris would be 60.
Harris’s recent comments to The Associated Press echoed her sentiments. When probed about her readiness to potentially step into the presidential shoes, she affirmed, “Indeed.” However, she quickly added, “Though it’s a hypothetical scenario, I firmly believe Joe Biden will remain robust, making such a transition unlikely.” Harris emphasized that every vice president should be prepared for such responsibilities.
