Texas Senate Bill 8 went into effect September 1st. The new law protects unborn children the moment a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is usually around the 6-week mark of a pregnancy. In addition, the new law allows citizens to file suit against doctors they believe have violated the law.
Almost two dozen organizations attempted the stop the law from going into effect, but a last-minute hearing was canceled by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.
