Should Every Illegal Immigrant Have a Pathway to Citizenship?

In June, Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar suggested that all illegal immigrants in the U.S. should have a pathway to citizenship. “We must create a pathway to citizenship for all undocumented people living here,” she said. “Immigrants get the job done.”

Omar seems to be ignoring the many criminals who come over the border and commit crimes inside the United States. If a criminal crosses the border illegally and rapes or kills somebody, is that “getting the job done”? Omar did not address this issue.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that 178,622 people tried to cross the southwestern border in April 2021. This figure was up 3% from March.
