Border Patrol agents have been accused of whipping illegal immigrants while on horseback in Del Rio, Texas. The accusations stem from a photograph. An anonymous Border Patrol agent denied the allegations, saying the photograph actually showed horse reins.

The anonymous source also claimed that Border Patrol agents use whips to steer their horses and spin them to deter migrants from coming too close to the horses.

Despite the allegation being unproven, the Biden Administration has banned the use of horses in Del Rio and reassigned the agents using them to desk duties. Some think this is a disproportionate response that will make enforcing border security more difficult.

While the Biden Administration had promised a swift investigation of “days, not weeks,” the investigation appears to be ongoing.
